The Curvy Girls Baby Club The laugh out loud feel good romantic comedy about parenthood and muffin tops Confidence is the New Black Book 2 edition by Michele Gorman Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

  • It was a perfectly nice story. I wasn't as excited about it as I thought I'd be.
  • This book was simply beautifully written, the only issue I had was it was a long time from reading the first book of the "The Curvy Girls Club". Can't wait to read more on the great ladies and their families.
  • I really enjoyed this follow-up to the Curvy Girls club and I have long been a Michele Gorman fan.
  • Curvy Girls Baby Club...a fun read...might have expanded some of the background and happenings. Needless to say fun to read.
  • She always writes great stories
    Love her style
  • What a fun book. I loved the read.
  • Very short book......very predictable. Seems like the author was forced to write another book for a deadline. It was hurried with very little plot or character development.
  • 'The Curvy Girls Baby Club' is set not too long after where the 'The Curvy Girls Club' stopped. Ellie, Jane and Katie are still the best of friends who share everything with each other and support one another, through thick and thin. When Ellie comes back from her honeymoon she can't wait to tell her friends that she is pregnant. However, to all of their surprises, Jane has the same news to share with them and the two even share the same due date around Christmas. The Curvy Girls Club's focus suddenly switches to the trials and tribulations of being pregnant while also dealing with pushy mother-in-laws, career stress, and low self-esteem. Will the friends be able to get through it all, still sticking to their belief to always love yourself, no matter what?

'The Curvy Girls Baby Club' is a short novella (roughly 120 pages in print) and a really enjoyable quick read from author Michele Gorman. The story focuses on Ellie, Katie and Jane; 3 friends who helped start up the Curvy Girls Club (which you can read more about in the original novel to which this is the sequel). I loved being back with these characters, reading more about them and seeing what they were up to. The girls turn out to be pregnant at the same time, resulting in them going through the different stages of becoming a mother together. While the plotline is quite far-fetched, it did result in a lovely story so it didn't bother me and I decided to just see it as a big coincidence with a spoonful of luck!

Michele Gorman's writing style is really easy to get into and combined with short chapters this made for a very quick read. I definitely wouldn't have minded if this had been a full-length novel instead of a novella because I really enjoyed it. I do recommend reading the 'The Curvy Girls Club' before picking up this novella, just so you know what the characters have been through and how they got where they are at the start of the story. Overall, another wonderful read by Michele Gorman and an entertaining sequel to 'The Curvy Girls Club' which I thoroughly enjoyed!

Disaster Risk Governance offers the first extensive engagement with disaster risk governance in the Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa. In the last decade and a half Kenya, Jamaica, Dominica, and Zanzibar have all suffered massive destruction from disasters caused by natural hazards. Despite the tremendous investments in disaster risk reduction (DRR), disasters have wiped out the developmental gains of these countries.

In this book, Denise Thompson argues that disaster risk governance (DRG) as a practical and academic matter has not been given the attention it deserves, and as a result, this neglect has undermined the time, money and resources invested in DRR in developing countries since the late 1970s and early 1980s. Thompson proposes that properly conceptualizing DRG based on context will help to address some of the deficiencies. Consequently, DRG needs to become a central focus, particularly for developing countries.

Written with real-life implications for developing countries, Disaster Risk Governance, is perfectly suited for practitioners and researchers in area studies, disaster risk reduction and disaster governance, as well as students of disaster studies.

The DAILY 30 The Quick Everyday Bodyweight Workout! Basic Fitness Exercise Routine for children teen men women and senior The STRENGTH WARRIOR Workout Routine Series Book 1 eBook Ryan J Mathias Reviews

  • It's good the author takes us back to the basics with 3 simple core exercises. Unfortunately he also felt compelled to make the 'book' 10x longer than it had to be by stuffing it with duplicate content (about 80% of the page total) and blatant self promotion. But as far as the most important concepts (relating to injury prevention) 'external rotation torque', barely a mention except for 'do it'.

As well, the formatting is poor (there's software available for that) and offering a video upgrade for good _______ (you know what), give me a break. This Book should either be reduced in price, have value added to it (videos, etc) or both. The irony being it would probably be far more lucrative to give more and ask less.

NOTE I would have given "The DAILY 30" another star if the video(s) had been included.
  • This book provides an in-depth approach on how to implement the Daily 30 to meet your fitness goals. It goes over the benefits of doing the Daily 30 regularly as well as go as far as provide some sample modifications to make this routine into a workout circuit.

The Daily 30 is highly underrated in terms of staying healthy and mobile, and I recommend this book to just about anymore, whether you’re looking to correct muscular imbalances, conditioning for a sport, or just trying to get a workout in in a short amount of time. You will definitely notice a difference in how your body feels and how your body is able to move after implementing this for a few weeks. Definitely give this book a shot!
  • Coming from someone who is very new to strength training and weight lifting, the Daily 30 is a great way to help me stick to my fitness goals, something I have never done well in the past. It also has helped me learn the importance of mobility in physical fitness, something I had long overlooked. I have been starting to use this routine as part of a warm-up and it has been enjoyable and effective so far!

On a side note, I have spoken with the author of this book on numerous occasions and can undoubtedly state that he is very knowledgeable on this subject. Mr. Mathias has helped me in more ways than I can count and I would strongly recommend any of his books.
  • As a PE teacher, I am always looking for something to help improve the routine in my classes. The Daily 30 is going to become an integral part of my warm ups, helping to improve both strength and flexibility in my students. One of the biggest benefits is that this requires no equipment, and can be done anywhere. Thanks to the author for sharing his knowledge and passion for fitness in such an easy to understand and inspiring e-book.
  • I bought this book on a whim, I like short kindle books about exercise.

This is probably one of the best books fitting that description I have come across

I've read through the book twice now. I think Ryan put together a great routine for strength/health/mobility.

If you are a fan of the "Royal Court" by Matt Furey, you will probably like Ryan's routine and views on exercise

Ryan points out consistency as the #1 key to physical fitness, and his routine is designed to keep you consistent. it's too easy not to do at least once a day.
  • Lots of useful information!! Love this program and would definitely recommend it! Check out Ryan’s other book Motivated Mindset with Words of Wisdom. Great read!
  • There are a lot of books out there on body weight routines, but none of the ones I’ve seen are as easy to read and implement as this one.

The Daily 30 routine consists of 3 exercises which, combined, target muscle groups throughout the entire body. Ryan provides concise instructions on how to do each and explains the benefits of each movement.

At the bare minimum level, one circuit of the Daily 30 can be used as a corrective routine to improve your movement and posture. But you can scale it up, using multiple circuits as a warmup to your normal workout or treat it as a stand-alone workout.

After several weeks of the Daily 30 (both as a single-circuit daily corrective as well as a workout), I’ve noticed positive changes to my posture and the way I’m moving around each day. Based on the price of this book and the simplicity of the routine, I’d recommend this book to anyone!
  • Whatever excuse you use to avoid exercise, it's now invalid. This program is very quick to complete, needs no equipment and can be performed in very little space. The movements are also easy to learn. Disclaimer I was provided this edition free of charge.

Journalist Leander Kahney reveals how CEO Tim Cook has led Apple to astronomical success after the death of Steve Jobs in 2011.

The death of Steve Jobs left a gaping void at one of the most innovative companies of all time. Jobs wasn't merely Apple's iconic founder and CEO; he was the living embodiment of a global megabrand. It was hard to imagine that anyone could fill his shoes - especially not Tim Cook, the intensely private executive who many thought of as Apple's "operations drone".

But seven years later, as journalist Leander Kahney reveals in this definitive audiobook, things at Apple couldn't be better. Its stock has nearly tripled, making it the world's first trillion-dollar company. Under Cook's principled leadership, Apple is pushing hard into renewable energy, labor- and environmentally friendly supply chains, user privacy, and highly recyclable products. From the massive growth of the iPhone to lesser-known victories like the Apple Watch, Cook is leading Apple to a new era of success.

Drawing on access with several Apple insiders, Kahney tells the inspiring story of how one man attempted to replace someone irreplaceable and - through strong, humane leadership, supply-chain savvy, and a commitment to his values - succeeded more than anyone had thought possible.

Ebook Tim Cook The Genius Who Took Apple to the Next Level Audible Audio Edition Leander Kahney Jonathan Cowley Penguin Audio Books

"I had eagerly anticipated this book. Tim Cook has been the CEO of one of the world’s most valuable companies for almost nine years. Yet, ironically, this is the first detailed attempt in book form to closely examine the man’s background leading up to his assuming control after Steve Jobs’ death in 2011 and the influence that he has had in re-shaping the culture of Apple Inc. while bringing the company’s market capitalization to a staggering trillion dollars.

Kahney opens with a quick introduction entitled “Killing It” which summarizes the industry dominance that Apple currently enjoys and makes it clear that Cook gets a lion’s share of the credit. He goes on to introduce the six core values that Cook has ingrained in the company’s strategy: accessibility; education; environment; inclusion and diversity; privacy and security; and supplier responsibility. These lay the groundwork for very detailed discussion in the second half of the book of Cook’s passion for coupling good strategy with good values and his success in achieving it.

The first chapter describes in some detail the interesting specifics of the leadership handover from Steve Jobs to Tim Cook that culminated in 2011. Kahney goes on to describe the reservations that many pundits had regarding his ability to sustain Apple’s momentum. In retrospect, those many who predicted imminent failure are now a little hard to be found.

The next few chapters highlight Cook’s early life and education near Mobile, Alabama, his matriculation at Auburn culminating in a BS in Industrial Engineering, and his pre-Apple stints at IBM, Intelligent Electronics, and Compaq. Cook spent the first twelve years of his career at IBM. I had the good fortune to work closely with Tim during much of that time, which was characterized by high volume manufacturing at IBM’s Research Triangle Park, NC facility and most notably the bringing of the IBM Personal Computer Company and the manufacture of its exciting array of products to the site. Those were heady times for all of us lucky enough to be involved. Cook was every bit the leader that Kahney describes in the book. Nobody outworked Tim Cook. His work was his life, and apparently still is. It was also telling that two of his current right hand men at Apple, Jeff Williams (Apple’s current COO) and Bill Frederick, were part of our IBM team.

Kahney proceeds to spend the remaining three quarters of the book describing Cook’s hiring out of Compaq by Steve Jobs, his increasingly significant roles in managing operations at Apple, his appointment as COO, his serving as interim CEO during two of Jobs’ illnesses and convalescences, his 2011 elevation to CEO, and his subsequent seven years in leading Apple to the pinnacle of Silicon Valley and the tech industry.

Kahney does a good job describing the facts surrounding the numerous hardware and software launches for iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook, Mac Pro, Apple Watch, OSX, iOS, Apple Music, etc during those years as well as the role that Cook had in ensuring their success. He also goes into interesting detail regarding the planning and realization of the new Apple Park headquarters.

Kahney fairly criticizes Cook and his team for the premature launch of Apple Maps and particularly the ephemeral, on-again / off-again status of Project Titan, for the much rumored self-driving Apple Car. But I believe that he did not go far enough. Apple is now at a significant crossroads. Continued growth is only going to be ensured by entrances into entire new product offerings, particularly in the service sector. I believe that Kahney missed a key set of discussion points regarding Cook’s potential for keeping Apple on its current growth track. The last decade has been great, and it has been led primarily by hardware, much of it originally conceived in the Jobs era. Okay, now what?

Kahney does a particularly good job in describing the facts surrounding the government’s demand for Apple to assist with the decryption of the San Bernardino assailant’s iPhone and Cook’s refusal to budge on Apple’s commitment to privacy. In the end, Cook and Apple were vindicated by the press and court of public opinion.

He spends roughly a quarter of the book going into quite a bit of detail regarding Cook’s commitment to the environment and diversity. In having known and worked with Tim, I do not doubt his commitment to these values and his leadership in ingraining them in Apple’s culture, but I still felt that I was reading a series of Apple press releases as I waded through this significant portion of the book.

In summary, the book is a very worthwhile read and you should come away with a great deal of respect for Tim Cook and what he has achieved. Kahney tends to cheerleading throughout much of the book in making his case, but I do not quarrel with his conclusions. I only wonder now what is next for Cook. As he is only fifty-nine years old, would there not be some potential for him to enter politics? Time will tell. But I know this. He has much to offer as a visionary and leader. As I am a longtime conservative Republican, I am not at all reluctant to say that I would certainly give him a shot."

As I am a longtime conservative Republican, I am not at all reluctant to say that I would certainly give him a shot.
  • I pre-purchased this book as soon as it was announced. I have wanted to learn more about Tim Cook for many years. It’s a quick read, I finished it in one sitting. The first third of the book covers Tim’s early life and career up until he becomes the acting CEO at Apple. I found this part of the book to be extremely interesting. It provided and insight into the man, his motivations, and the processes that he learned, brought to Apple, and perfected, and that truly turned Apple into the juggernaut that it is today. I felt the remaining two thirds of the book was a bland retelling of publicly available facts and figures and published stories. I’m sure it is very difficult to get on the record interviews regarding Tim’s actions since he is still at Apple though.
  • Great book was a great history of Apple and all Mr. Cook has added. He has done a great job and how he keeps all departments in order is quit un real. Enjoyed the book.
  • I read half of the book. There are very specific information not available anywhere.
  • Imagine if Elon Musk could hire a guy that made sure each of his new cars could be sold the day following their announcement, in all markets, at the right quality with the exact customer requested options. This is who Steve Jobs managed to hire with Tim Cook.
Since this book is the first on the subject there is no better option, unfortunately. The author does a good job of combing existing books, publications and videos to construct a decent retrospective timeline but there is no investigation to speak of. Being blessed by Apple PR the author could not stray from the official Apple history.
The research work falls short of unearthing anything new and many questions remain unanswered. What happened when the Irish, Singapore and California plants were stopped? What did Apple lose in the outsourcing process? How did Foxconn the Taiwanese company manage the build its mammoth operation in Mainland China despite the political tensions?
The author reminds us of the various iPhone novelties with no hint of what Tim Cook may or may not have done in the process. With the iPhone X there is nothing outlining his role. He also fails to tell what led him to distribute dividends despite Steve jobs history of not doing it.
There is probably a signed agreement preventing Scott Forstall to give his version of the story but why not ask Tony Fadell and other former Apple employees? And some Chinese executives?
Tim Cook’s work and mark is very very impressive. However this book leaves a lot of room for a more thorough investigation.
  • Don't buy it. All this author has done is take public information about Cook and Apple and organized it. There is little or no information that provides insight about the person.
  • Pretty interesting account of a major CEO. Gives me a big respect for him. Thanks Tim and Apple for putting me the consumer first instead of anyone wanting to sell my info for profit
  • After reading the sinopsis, this book looks promising. From a photographer point of view, the imagery is stunning. It feels as if Tim looked for that natural effect, which resembles his transparency in not wanting to cover anything up and being remembered for who he is. Can’t wait to finish reading the book, I’m hooked!

The Vacation Wife A Hotwife Romance edition by David Stone Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

  • I hate labels, I really do. But Ryan, our primary male character in this book, spent a good deal of the time trying to put the occurrences in this story into categories. I've read 2 stories from this series and I believe the titles are misnomers. Even though they are titled as "hotwife" stories, I do not think that is accurate. These are more polyamory/open relationship stories. Indeed, the wife in this story becomes a secondary character. I can't even call it a happy swingers tale as I doubt many lifestylers would be comfortable with the arrangements in this story. It's got more of a 70s-coummunal-free-love-utopia feel to it than anything. So, I would call it a polyamory romance rather than a hotwife novel, just by definition.

Yet, this is a very enjoyable read. The author is a great writer and I love the dialogue between the characters, especially Marci's witty banter with Ryan. She became my favorite character and seems like she would be fun to hang out with and Ryan is a likable, thoughtful guy as well. I think the story is a bit fanciful with regard to how things would work out with that many people and relationships involved but still it was fun and thought-provoking. It's a good read but not truly in the hotwife genre if that's what you're hoping for.
  • David stone never fails to deliver. Good read
  • This book was really ridiculous. I had a hard time getting through it because it was so outlandish and SO predictable. Seriously, do not waste your time.
  • The Vacation Wife, by David Stone, was a good story although I prefer the mountains over Mexico. Very good ending.
  • A five star might be a little high but the ending pushed it over the edge. Maybe the one wife law needs to be revised?
  • I enjoyed the story line, however, I was hoping for more scenes with the neighbor, Greg. He could have been a bigger character in the story. Overall a good read.
  • Easy, exciting ;) read.
  • Author's consistency

Graham Hancock's multimillion best seller Fingerprints of the Gods remains an astonishing, deeply controversial, wide-ranging investigation of the mysteries of our past and the evidence for Earth's lost civilization. Twenty years on, Hancock returns with the sequel to his seminal work, filled with completely new scientific and archaeological evidence, which has only recently come to light....

Near the end of the last ice age, 12,800 years ago, a giant comet that had entered the solar system from deep space thousands of years earlier broke into multiple fragments. Some of these struck the Earth, causing a global cataclysm on a scale unseen since the extinction of the dinosaurs. At least eight of the fragments hit the North American ice cap while further fragments hit the Northern European ice cap. The impacts, from comet fragments a mile wide approaching at more than 60,000 miles an hour, generated huge amounts of heat that instantly liquidized millions of square kilometers of ice, destabilizing the Earth's crust and causing the global deluge that is remembered in myths all around the world.

A second series of impacts, equally devastating, causing further cataclysmic flooding, occurred 11,600 years ago - the exact date that Plato gave for the destruction and submergence of Atlantis. The evidence revealed in this book shows beyond reasonable doubt that an advanced civilization that flourished during the Ice Age was destroyed in the global cataclysms between 12,800 and 11,600 years ago. But there were survivors - known to later cultures by names such as "the Sages", "the Magicians", "the Shining Ones", and "the Mystery Teachers of Heaven". They travelled the world in their great ships, doing all in their power to keep the spark of civilization burning. They settled at key locations - Gobekli Tepe in Turkey, Baalbek in the Lebanon, Giza in Egypt, ancient Sumer, Mexico, Peru, and across the Pacific, where a huge pyramid has recently been discovered in Indonesia. Everywhere they went these "Magicians of the Gods" brought with them the memory of a time when mankind had fallen out of harmony with the universe and paid a heavy price. A memory and a warning to the future...for the comet that wrought such destruction between 12,800 and 11,600 years ago may not be done with us yet. Astronomers believe that a 20-mile-wide "dark" fragment of the original giant comet remains hidden within its debris stream and threatens the Earth. An astronomical message encoded at Gobekli Tepe and in the Sphinx and the pyramids of Egypt warns that the "Great Return" will occur in our time....

"Compared to Hancock's earlier work, this book is more mature and less speculative. Hancock carefully and thoroughly presents evidence for his research that seems on par with academic standards. What's presented here should no longer be called "pseudoarchaeology". I suspect someday we will look back on Hancock's work as an inflection point or tipping point in rewriting history.

Hancock's strongest (and almost irrefutable) theory is that there was a lost, global advanced civilization prior to Sumerian and Egyptian cultures. Hancock provides evidence that points to a comet hitting earth around 10,500BC, melting the ice caps / ice age, and a simultaneous rising-sea wiping out this civilization along with most of their technology. This is probably his weakest theory, though it has some valid and well-supported points. Hancock points to the flood legends around the globe, including Noah's biblical flood, as a reference to this flood along with evidence that a comet did in fact hit earth near the north pole. Though Hancock himself does not seem to subscribe to the biblical "Genesis Record", his work greatly helps the case for at least parts of it. Genesis / biblical flood proponents could see Hancock's work fitting nicely into their chronology of events, except with two cataclysms:

1) An advanced culture occupies earth
2) A worldwide cataclysm occurs which not only floods the earth, but causes mass volcanic eruptions. The extreme mass of particles in the atmosphere reflect sunlight and cause global cooling (Research "hydroplate theory")
3) A small group of humans survive this deluge, bringing animal life with them, AND the technological knowledge of their culture. They exit their "ark" while the flood waters recede. The earth is still very cool, and ice has formed everywhere.
4) This band of survivors use their technological knowledge to form an advanced culture and spread across the globe rapidly. They build Göbekli Tepe, the Great Pyramid, Sacsayhuaman, and possibly other monuments such as Stone Henge...etc. Genesis proponents would point to the Nimrod /Babel period. The epic of Gigamesh also could confirm this.
5) After a few hundred years, the ice begins to melt -either from natural global warming or through the events of Hancock's younger dryas comet, sea level rises again, and wipes out much of this advanced civilization. The remnants of this civilization eventually become the Sumerian, Egyptian, and other ancient cultures, except much of their technology is lost or no longer understood."

  • The book is transformational and like a college course. I will no longer believe the history of the world in the same acceptance found in all libraries, written history. THERE IS MUCH MORE AND THERE WAS A FLOOD GLOBALLY. Truth in that or if you doubt requires reading here. My one criticism is the author is so defensive it bogs down so you want to skip pages. However the defense is likely required since all archaeology and all discoveries are threatened by the premise of a history 10,000 years ago predating all the experts now published so Hancock's findings vs the world experts will be a war. I think he is 90% correct and this changes all history books and sets a new normal for the history of the world as we know it. Worth reading, a long book but in itself it is a new history of the world and it will change your thinking.
  • I saw some videos on YTube about some of the findings in this book and decided to go to the source.
I'm not very impressed after reading the first 3 chapters.
After just a few Google searches I found eyewitness reports from travelers who, after reading the book , went to some of the places mentioned and found nothing to confirm what the author said about those places.
Chapter 1 is based on an interview with German archaeologist Klaus Schmidt, who died very soon thereafter. So we can't really rely on what the author claims he said in the interview.
in Ch. 2 the author relates a meeting with Danny Hilman Natawedjaja, an Indonesian geologist, and an excavation that began at Gunung Padang in August 2014. People who read this book have subsequently visited the site and there is no sign of any such activity. They talked with the local people there and it just hasn't happened.
I do believe there are many cities/cultures that existed before the timelines in our history books. However, I generally find that most authors who write about them find very few facts that can be authenticated, so they have to supply connections between those facts themselves, which is simply pure speculation. The majority of the information in this book is just that.
One thing I do commend Hancock for is his frequent discussion of the process of radiocarbon dating - it is under scrutiny and its reliability in many instances is suspect at best. Until is is improved it won't be possible to confirm ages reliably.

  • A book that should be required reading for any boater. I didn't have any friends that could teach me how to sail and could not afford someone to teach me but believe it or not I learned (even thou through trial and error) how to sail just from the information in it. I'm not a race sailor but I've sailed the gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic so I guess one could say I'm an accomplished sailor.
  • This is the third purchase I have made over time of this book. My previous copies were dog eared and falling apart from usage. It is very well written and informative. It has been considered "the book" for learning sailing. I have been away from the sport for a long time, and got the book as a refresher. It has served me well from the time I was a Sea Scout through Maine Maritime Academy and beyond. A recommended read for anyone interested in Sailing from a novice to a seasoned sailor. I seem to learn something every time I read it.
  • Your book shelf has a hole in it if you don't have this title. It is a comprehensive book on the seamanship of mid-size sailing vessels. I say mid-size not to exclude larger and smaller boats. The book covers it all from some basic physics to fabrics. The only thing missing is getting wet. While there is some room for improvement, there isn't much room. If you take sailing seriously, you already have this one.
  • Great introductory book on sailing. My wife and I are looking to get into sailing, and it has a good, basic start to understanding sailing. The writing is clear, and explains sailing jargon clearly. The one downside is that the pictures in the book didn't print well, being too dark and therefore hard to see what is being demonstrated in the pics. Otherwise, we are satisfied with the wealth of information in the book!
  • I just got into sailing in the summer of 2014. This book has been indispensable in covering not only the basics, but many other more advanced topics that I've been curious to learn about. It will continue to be a solid reference point for me as I continue sailing in the coming years.
  • Bought it for my son, I had the first edition. Found it to be what I consider, the authoritative source for written information when learning to sail!
  • The price of the book was fairly expensive so the fact that my download did not include illustrations make this purchases totally worthless. It could be that The download went wrong. I would like to try again but as I’m offshore getting internet access is pretty sketchy. I have a hard copy of the book which is great. This without the illustrations. Not so much.

UPDATE - I downloaded the book again and it came through with the illustrations.
  • Definitely worth the read for the newer sailor. Not the first book you should read if you've never sailed, but once you know what a luffing sail means and the difference between a tack and a gybe you can start to appreciate a lot of what this book has to offer. It will help you understand how to take your sailing experience to a higher, more skilled level.

Circle of the Moon Soulwood Book 4 Audible Audio Edition Faith Hunter Khristine Hvam Audible Studios Books Reviews

  • Nell is just getting back into the full swing of her job at PsyLED Unit Eighteen after recovering and healing from her time as a “tree.” Their last big assignment was harsh on everyone especially her sweetie, Occam, whom she called back from death. Nell has several tasks as usual between still learning the intricacies of her job, finding the money to get her house up to modern standards so as to obtain custody of her young sister, Mindy(Mud), and figuring out what is going on with her boss, Rick LaFleur. Life has been hard on Rick the last few years especially after his cat shifter taint took hold. Now he may have a connection to someone, a blood-witch, who has a vendetta and is creating curse circles with deadly intent.

Nell’s own continued transitioning towards a non-human as she is according to Faith Hunter, a “new form of nature spirit” along with her connection to Soulwood and the troublesome Vampire tree on the church property presents challenges on several levels. Surprisingly, the Vampire tree which is constantly encroaching on Soulwood, may have something to offer Nell in a positive way. Nell’s relationship with her werecat fellow teammate, Occam, has taken some tentative steps in the direction of more than just casual, but her issues with men are still in the forefront. Occam has a cat’s patience and after declaring his intent, the ball as the saying goes, is in Nell’s court.

For those who have been fretting over Jane Yellowrock after her latest extremely major problem, she makes a brief appearance by phone. Jane’s brother, Ayatas Firewind, is the unit’s newest up line boss coming in at a critical point to help and irritate the team in equal measures. Nell takes a dim view of arrogant males whom she feels underestimate her unique skills. Rick’s supernatural past keeps not only catching up with him, but culminates in a way that he may not survive. Nell has a lot of control through Soulwood over the werecats, but is hesitant to exert too much power. She and Soulwood are always hungry to absorb the life of anyone they claim so considerable restraint on her part is needed not to consume those she owns by virtue of their blood having been spilled on her land.

The physical and emotional changes Nell is going through present trials and mysteries as to where things will all shake out. She is not sure what the alterations mean, especially the physical ones, but Nell wants to live life to the fullest and live it abundantly. Fans of Nell will enjoy the thrills, chills, and intensity of Circle of the Moon, #4 in the Soulwood series. The pace and force of this story will keep readers’ pulse racing and anxious to see how it all turns out for Nell and the gang.
  • Circle of the Moon is one of the best Soulwood books yet, packed with everything you both need and want danger, mystery, a little romance, and supernatural hijinks.

Nell is getting back into the swing of things after her little trip into...being a tree... and there's a lot going on in her life. With Mud possibly moving in with her, "updating" her previously off-the-grid home, figuring out what she and Occam are to each other, AND heading back to work, you'd think she'd start to get a little overwhelmed.

Instead, Nell is a total bad*ss. I LOVE that she always steps up when she needs to, and, to be honest, even when she's not supposed to. Her intelligence and sass just continue to both amuse me and extending my list for all the reasons that this series is simply, absolutely wonderful. Nell is, as many of you might already expect, the true MVP in CotM. She's coming to understand and own her abilities in new ways that I truly wasn't expecting, and I am continually awed at the creative yet credible ways that Hunter grows Nell's powers and uses them them within the Unit's cases.

MVP runner-up HAS TO BE Mud, no contest. What a wonderful little spitfire! The conversations between her and Nell are priceless, and it's hysterical how well Nell's young sib gives her a run for her money...that sass is definitely genetic. Not only that, but Mud is independent, brave, and pretty darn street smart. It's awesome that Hunter has created this character who's young, yes, but has such potential to be really important and pretty darn useful.

As per usual, the rest of the unit is fantastic- especially my favorite, Occam. I'm a big Bruiser fan, but Occam is some pretty stiff competition. The budding relationship between him and Nell continues to bloom, though, as always, the main story-line takes precedence. Even though I'd love to see their romance speed up a little, there's enough progress that it feels realistic and still satisfying (AND D*MN ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Now, CotM is a big book for Nell, but it's also monumental for Rick. For awhile now, life has been a little complicated for him. Since his featured spotlight in Jane's series, there have been some unanswered questions that piled up, and Hunter has slowly been gifting us with little answers here and there, but there was SO MUCH left to uncover. Curious moments that might have passed you by will reach out, grab you, and make you go "OH SH*T! That's why that's happening!"

CotM digs deep into Rick's past, but the story-line is still totally approachable for for fans who might only be Soulwood readers with no experience in the Jane Yellowrock series. The plot is well-paced and well-developed, unfolding bit by bit in a way that really makes sense and makes it easy for us to follow a case that really is quite complex.

Overall, I laughed, sighed, squealed in delight, banged the book against my head. This book, as Faith Hunter's usually do, gave me all of the feelings. It's a great story with characters who continue to develop and just drag me down into their world with absolutely no resistance on my part. I can't wait to see what happens next for Nell, Mud, and the rest of my favorite PsyLed unit!
  • I really like the way this story arc is headed. In this installment we see that Nell is really finding her place in the world and stepping out with much more confidence. Her personal relationships, especially with sister Mud and romantic interest Occam are beginning to bloom. As usual, Hunter deftly manages to tie in an exciting paranormal crime/mystery into the mix. Plenty of suspense and action with a...well, soul(wood). Loved it! Best of the series so far, IMHO.

Justice Antonin Scalia (1936–2016) was the single most important figure in the emergence of the “new originalist” interpretation of the US Constitution, which sought to anchor the court’s interpretation of the Constitution to the ordinary meaning of the words at the time of drafting. For Scalia, the meaning of constitutional provisions and statutes was rigidly fixed by their original meanings with little concern for extratextual considerations. While some lauded his uncompromising principles, others argued that such a rigid view of the Constitution both denies and attempts to limit the discretion of judges in ways that damage and distort our system of law.

In this edited collection, leading scholars from law, political science, philosophy, rhetoric, and linguistics look at the ways Scalia framed and stated his arguments. Focusing on rhetorical strategies rather than the logic or validity of Scalia’s legal arguments, the contributors collectively reveal that Scalia enacted his rigidly conservative vision of the law through his rhetorical framing.
